Prince Rupert Sends Enbridge a Written Lashing
Prince Rupert City council is sending Enbridge a letter regarding the lack of communication during their community consultations. Councillors say Enbridge officials, only spoke to the Port Authority, Coastal Pilots, and some Tourism Industries, but failing to reach out to First Nations and constituents.
Councillor Joy Thorkelson feels Enbridge showed pure ignorance towards local mariners concerns and inquiries about the proposed pipeline.
Thorkelson has been attending the JRP Hearings and says Enbridge made a point of saying an oil spill wouldn't concern Prince Rupert residents during the proposal stages, therefore they didn't feel the need to include mariners in the preliminary stages of marine recovery planning.
"Had Enbridge not come to speak to mariners in the community and other coastal communities, is really a slap in the face. To think that the coastal pilots have a different perspective to things, they are looking from way up in their wheel house and the little guy is much lower in the house and has a different perspective."
She says the main concerns of locals is increased ship traffic from proposed LNG Terminals and the safety hazards larger vessels will present if the proposed pipeline becomes a reality.
