Senate passes amended version of Liberal tanker ban, rejects eleventh-hour challenge by Conservative
The Tanker Moratorium Bill C-48 is continuing to wind its way through Parliament. Just before midnight Thursday night an amended version of the act was passed by the Senate and now the bill goes back to the House of Commons. Another Senator, this time an independent, introduced a review amendment as a “compromise” and it was passed. The amendment calls for a regional assessment to be done in the next 4 years with Alberta and Saskatchewan being invited to jointly oversee the assessment and then a review of the bill in 5 years.
