Tofino chamber doesn’t back Gateway pipeline
A group representing hundreds of businesses in Tofino is criticizing the B.C. Chamber of Commerce for its stand on the Northern Gateway pipeline project.
Earlier this month, the B.C.
Chamber of Commerce released a letter that declared its "strong support" for the oil pipeline in August.
But Gord Johns of the Tofino-Long Beach Chamber of Commerce says that the provincial group doesn't speak for his more than 300 members who rely primarily on clean and healthy oceans in order to survive.
He says that his West Coast community experienced an oil spill in December 1988, and that his chamber doesn't endorse a project that increases the risk to habitat.
